Course program
During this academic year (2017/2018), the course of Theories of International Politics will focus on Strategic Theory and its application to the study of international politics. The concept of ‘strategy’ and other related concepts are among the most frequently used in the field of international relations. This is not surprising, given that the relation between war and politics is the central theme in the theory and practice of international politics. During the last centuries, the concept of ‘strategy’ has been used not only in the military field but also in different contexts (social, political and economic). This state of affairs has produced an erosion of the original meaning of strategy and has reduced its explanatory power. Against this background, the objective of the course is to recover the original meaning of the concept, in particular in the political-military analysis.
