Course Content
Economics of Education: investment in human capital, private and social return to education, education as a signalling and a screening device, gender differences in the access to education, education for growth and democratization.
Health Economics: demand for health; demand for health insurance with adverse selection and moral hazard; elements of economic epidemiology; peculiarities of the pharmaceutical industry.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the course students are expected to know why both education and health are important determinants of human capital as an important key issue for individual well-being and economic development. Students are also expected to be able to adopt a critical approach to interpret economic phenomena referring to the educational and the health sector by using the theoretical tools provided by public economics.
Prerequisites
Undergraduate course in microeconomics and familiarity with the standard mathematical techniques of economic theory.
