Introduction to themes and methods of Urban Sociology of particular interest in Social POlicies Projecting and Managing. It combines the theoretical approach and the assessment of empirical research focussing on a selection of crucial descriptive dimensions of the territorial contexts. Lectures + exercises offer a concrete illustration of the methodological problems in social intervention design building.
Students attending the lessons can prepare on the teaching documents available on line. They must write and present an individual report.
Students who cannot attend the lessons must prepare on the following texts:

Learning Objectives
1. To be able to recognize the essential features of the discipline in its relations with social work;
2. To be able to use properly the founding concepts of Urban Sociology
3. To be aware of the development of the sociological debate on territorial transformations;
4. To be able to characterize urban policies in their relations with the phenomenon of exclusion of individuals and groups
5. To be able to build a research design for the decsription of a concept aiming at sustaining social projecting (sources and research strategies, method problems).

The examination aims at evaluating the fulfilment of the courses'main objectives:
1. To be able to recognize the essential features of the discipline in its relations with social work;
2. To be able to use properly the founding concepts of Urban Sociology
3. To be aware of the development of the sociological debate on territorial transformations;
4. To be able to characterize urban policies in their relations with the phenomenon of exclusion of individuals and groups
5. To be able to build a research design for the decsription of a concept aiming at sustaining social projecting (sources and research strategies, method problems).
The fulfilment of these objectives is rated through an oral examination dedicated to the different texts in programme, respectively for students attending or not attending the lessons. The capacity to mobilize these texts in research designing, to present a coherent analysis of the corresponding themes the linguistic and comunicative appropiateness and eficiency will be positively evaluated,
Students attending the lessons must write and present an individual report.
This report (text and oral presentation) will contribute to 50% of the final grade.

Public, collective, adverse spaces; 5.Multiculturalism and contexts; 6. Urban segregation; 7. The “quartiere popolare” ; 8. Private space; 9. Housing deprivation; 10. Fragile contexts and "natural" disasters; 11. The prison; 12. Sport spaces.
