During the 2026/2027 academic year, the University of Florence’s Department of Political and Social Sciences will also organise the international BIP “Counter-Populism Lab: Audiovisual and Interactive Formats to Strengthen Youth Democratic Resilience in Europe”, in collaboration with the University of Granada (Spain) and ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Portugal).
The programme addresses the themes of populism, disinformation and contemporary political communication, with a particular focus on strategies to strengthen young people’s democratic resilience. Through an interdisciplinary approach integrating political science, communication and digital media, students will work in international groups to analyse populist discourses and develop audiovisual and interactive tools aimed at combating disinformation.
The programme will be divided into two phases:
• April 2027: online teaching and workshop activities;
• May 2027: in-person study visit at the University of Florence, featuring an intensive week of lectures, workshops and international group work.
The programme awards 3 CFU and is aimed at students on bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes interested in European politics, political communication, populism, disinformation and digital media.
Applications will open and be assessed in autumn 2026. Further information on the call for applications and how to take part will be published on this page and on the University’s website.
The BIP Call for Applications focuses on “The Contemporary Far-Right Parties: Towards a Political ‘Normalisation’?” and is hosted by Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (Romania).
The programme explores the evolution of far-right parties in contemporary Europe, analysing their development, political strategies and processes of normalisation within European democratic systems.
